Zines

I describe zines as handcrafted creative pamphlets varying topics from personal to controversial. The hands-on creative freedom of the medium intrigued me, and I eventually made my own in 2020, delving deeper and deeper into the zine community ever since.

For my zine-making process, once I finish a story, I write the words on a blank piece of paper, leaving space for illustrations. Then I clean up messes on the computer, print out the pages, and hand-bind them together with hemp twine or thread. This hands-on method gives me a better grasp of what the project will look like in the end, and gave me a newfound understanding of page layout and bookbinding.

Zines help fuel my creativity by giving me complete creative control over every single detail of the project. From the type of paper to designing a decorative font that helps strengthens the story, I look forward to bringing more of my imagination to reality.

Sir Bumble Begonia

The Vampire's Nursery Rhyme

The first Zine I've made; along with “The Vampire's Nursery Rhyme”.

The story is a fable about a knightly bumblebee named Sir Bumble Begonia. When a bear attacks his hive, the knight ventures into the forest to find a way to fight off the bear. Sir Bumble Begonia encounters the Witch Cat, who agrees to make a potion on the condition that Sir Bumble Begonia gather ingredients from the Coral Snake, the Frog, and the Skull Spider.

“Sir Bumble Begonia”, the nursery rhyme, was inspired by my sister and a prompt on the internet. It was illustrated with a desk ballpoint pen and bound with gray thread.

The Mystery of the Skeleton Gentleman

'The Mystery of The Skeleton Gentleman' is a story about an ominous house in the woods and the undead being who resides in it.

Sparking rumors around the two, and stories on what happens when one trespass into the building.

This is the first story I collaborated with Kristel Becares, who provided the illustrations while I focused on the writing and calligraphy.
